Early on Saturday, April 30th, 2016, David Schaefer and Ned Bury loaded Franciscan University's high-definition audio recording gear into the back of a Prius and headed for Pittsburgh. Arriving in the rolling hills of the Carnegie, PA, they met FUS music professor Nick Will and the student artists of the FUS Schola outside of a decommissioned -- but beautiful -- church. Inside, they quickly set up a Decca Tree miking rig and room mics for surround -sound recording as the Schola members and Dr. Will warmed up. Schola Cantorum Franciscana Releases New CD 12/10/2018
Exciting News! The New FUS Schola CD, produced in collaboration between the Fine Arts and Communication Arts Departments, has just been released by Warner Music! Congrats to all the students and faculty involved on their hard work and dedication on this wonderful project!
Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Schola Cantorum Franciscana has released a new CD, Exultate Deo, filled with soaring voices and stirring melodies. The CD features Renaissance polyphony such as William Byrd’s Nunc dimitis and Tomas Luis de Victoria’s Three Tenebrae Responsories.
The Schola is a liturgical choir comprised of 20-25 Franciscan University students and members of the wider community. The elite choral ensemble specializes in Gregorian chant and polyphonic music of the 16th, 17th, and 20th centuries.
The tracks for the new album were directed by Professor Nicholas Will and recorded in April 2016 at the former St. Ignatius Church in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. Exultate Deo was produced by the Communication Arts Department in conjunction with the Fine Arts Department. Dr. David Schaefer was the audio producer, recording engineer, editor, and mixdown engineer, and CD mastering engineer with assistance from Ned Bury, a recent Communication Arts graduate.
The music is being distributed through Warner Music and is available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon. The soundtrack is also available on Soundcloud or can be purchased at: http://hyperurl.co/Exultatedeo and will soon be available in CD form from the Franciscan University Bookstore.
